Loved hearing the story about Poppy Rose a New Hampshire adopted rescue rabbit who accompanied her owner Bree Schuette and her son Aiden on mountain hikes. Schuette first encouraged her son to take a hike after the death of his father, in order to scatter his father’s ashes. Hikes became a daily activity in 2020 and were an enjoyable way to counter their grief and social isolation during the pandemic. The rabbit also brought joy to Aiden’s life, so Schuette sought to combine the two—Poppy Rose becoming their regular hiking companion.

Once an avid and experienced hiker, Schuette began to suffer from a rare and debilitating autoimmune disease (relapsing polychondritis) which completely ended her hiking in 2023. Poppy Rose, however, continued hiking with friends and volunteers after Schuette posted hiking companion requests to local hiking Facebook pages. Schuette wrote a book “Poppy Rose, The Hoppy Adventures of a Tiny Mountain Bunny” to tell the bunny’s tale and to help raise funds for her medical treatment.

A video of Poppy Rose can be found here.

feeling good

As an old year rolls into a new one, sitting in the window with the warmth of sunshine reflected off the fallen snow, I’m reminded of the lyrics to Nina Simone’s hit "Feeling Good".

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good.

So, it’s a new year… new day… new life… new intentions… new beginnings… new blog!
And I’m feeling good.

*and will feel even better once we have cleared the snow from our driveway and we can get to the supermarket!
